“History is a symphony of echoes heard and unheard. It is a poem with events as verses.”
Greer Roller Mill
Samuel Greer, early settler in Oregon County, Mo built the Greer Roller Mill in 1899 with his partner George Mainprize. It is located three quarters of a mile uphill from the beautiful Greer Spring.
To harness the power of the mill, Greer built a system of cables and pulleys. Operations ended there in 1920. The mill, located north of Alton, Mo. in the Mark Twain National Forest, is currently undergoing restoration work.
